United Kingdom Certificate of Origin

Just a note to thank you for your help in arranging the online system, at JSK Fibre Glass Texturising Ltd, for the Country of Origin application, covering an order for my Turkish customer. As an older generation guy, who is not too happy with computers, it is extremely refreshing to be guided through the pitfalls of online registration and the documentation required for this order. Many thanks again to you and to the resources of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, I couldn’t have done it without you!

An UK Certificate of Origin is an important international trade document attesting that goods in a particular export shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country.

Certificates of Origin also constitute a declaration by the exporter. Virtually every country in the world considers the origin of imported goods when determining what duty will be assessed on the goods or, in some cases, whether the goods may be legally imported at all.

The buyers (importers) usually require a Certificate of Origin to:

  • Meet customs requirements in the importing state
  • Meet ‘quota’ requirements imposed by the importing country
  • Comply with banking requirements
  • For other official and commercial reasons

In the UK, the officially designated authorities for the issue of Certificates of Origin are Chambers of Commerce.
