Pendle Borough Council launches its first-ever Week of Work next week.

In collaboration with the East Lancashire Learning Group (ELLG), Pendle WOW will bring together local employers, educators and students for a dynamic programme of talks, workplace visits, hands-on experiences and placements, with a particular focus on T-Level students.

Designed to bridge the gap between education and employment, this exciting initiative will showcase the breadth of career opportunities available across the borough.

The programme will include:

  • Employer-led talks in schools and colleges
  • Workplace visits give students the chance to explore real working environments
  • Short placements and immersive experiences for T-Level learners
  • Primary school engagement, with two local primaries already taking part to help spark early career curiosity

The event has grown rapidly, with high schools now actively involved and further primary schools expressing interest. This reflects the community’s commitment to raising aspirations and strengthening links between education and industry.

Aneesa McGladdery, Pendle Borough Council’s Principal Economic Development Officer, said:

“Pendle WOW is about opening doors. It’s a chance for young people to see what’s possible, meet inspiring professionals and start imagining their future careers. We’re thrilled to be working with ELLG and local schools to make this happen.”

Phillip Spurr, Pendle Borough Council’s Director of Place, added:

“Pendle WOW is part of a wider strategy to support skills development, reduce economic inactivity and promote Pendle as a place of opportunity.”
