Lancashire-based Green Shield Group, a leader in renewable technology, has announced a further new solar PV installation with Hotel operators RBH Hospitality Management Ltd at their Crowne Plaza London Docklands.

Working alongside RBH, Green Shield Group delivered a solar PV system designed to reduce the hotel’s CO2 emissions by nearly 15,000kg in its first year with the system expected to achieve a 4% reduction in grid energy demand, aligning with the hotel’s sustainability goals.

The installation was in close proximity to the London City Airport flight path which meant Green Shield Group had to work closely with PagerPower and Newham Council securing the necessary permits for a crane operation during installation whilst also conducting an in-depth glint and glare assessment.

This looked at whether the installation could interfere with low-flying aircrafts with the analysis playing a vital role in demonstrating Green Shield Group’s understanding of the aviation safety regulations ensuring planning permission was granted.

Gregor MacNaughton, Chief Technology Officer at RBH said:

“Sustainability is at the heart of our operations at RBH and is part of our “Giving Something Back” programme. We give all our hotels, monthly and annual energy targets, and we’ve incentivised our general managers to hit those energy targets to help achieve group wide energy reduction targets.

“Partnering with Green Shield Group has been a key step in enhancing our journey towards reducing Crowne Plaza’s environmental impact. Their expertise and professionalism ensured a seamless installation process, even in the face of complex regulatory challenges.”

Jonathan Harrison, Managing Director at Green Shield Group said:

“It has been great to work with RBH and the team at Crowne Plaza London Docklands  on this project and further expand our client base within the hospitality industry.

“The project came with challenges; however, these were overcome via a wider renewable strategy, enabling us to work closely with the London Borough Council to satisfy the client’s brief. We are looking forward to further expanding our reach within the hospitality industry.”
