Businesses urged to prepare for Vaping Products Duty registration from April‌‌‌ 2026

The UK government is introducing Vaping Products Duty (VPD) and the Vaping Duty Stamps (VDS) Scheme from 1‌‌‌ October‌‌‌ 2026, with registration opening from 1‌‌‌ April‌‌‌ 2026.

VPD and VDS are part of the government’s ‘Plan for Change’ to create a smoke-free generation and tackle youth vaping.

What Businesses Need to Know

Vaping Products Duty (VPD) registration is a mandatory HMRC process for UK manufacturers, importers, and warehouse keepers involved in supplying vaping products.

Any business that manufactures, imports, or stores vaping products in duty suspension or is otherwise involved in the supply chain must register with HMRC before the scheme goes live.

Key Dates to Remember
  • 1 April 2026 – Registration for Vaping Products Duty opens
  • 1 October 2026 – VPD and VDS Scheme go live

Early registration and preparation will help ensure compliance and avoid disruption to business operations.

To support impacted businesses in their preparation HMRC have produced a stakeholder communications pack.
