James Alpe Ltd Announces their ‘Badge of Honour’ IMI Tech Safe Accreditation | Member News

Published On: June 16th, 2023

With the Automotive industry shift towards Electric and Hybrid Vehicles, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies becoming ubiquitous, it’s vitally important we have a workforce that can work safely and inspire confidence.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) TechSafe recognition demonstrates that James Alpe Ltd have the technical skills and knowledge to work on either Electric, Hybrid or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies on modern vehicles.

They have highly experienced, qualified technicians who have completed valid IMI TechSafe route qualifications, proving their competence to work safely within vehicle manufactures safety standards. Their qualified technicians are also on the IMI professional register.

Over 1 million plug-in cars registered

As of the end of April 2023, there were more than 1,250,500 plug-in cars with over 760,000 battery electric vehicles and 490,000 PHEVs registered.

Last year, more than 365,000 plug-in hybrid and battery-electric cars were registered, showing a growth of 20% on 2021. There was also a significant shift away from plug-in hybrids towards battery-electric cars, with plug-in hybrid sales declining year on year, while battery-electric vehicle sales have increased.

With the extremely high voltages involved with these vehicles, it is essential technicians understand the Health and Safety implications and maintain the integrity and safety of these vehicles post repairs.

From 2016, any new vehicle was required to have a minimum of two items of ADAS technology, to achieve the current industry standard 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. This minimum requirement includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning (LDW), both of which are complex systems that require specialist equipment to diagnose any faults and for carrying out accurate recalibration.

James Alpe Ltd’s qualified technicians

James Alpe Ltd technicians have the knowledge, skills and technical equipment to ensure all ADAS vehicle safety systems are fully operational to meet manufacturers exacting specifications.

A vital part of the Professional Register and IMI TechSafe is ensuring those on it remain up to date with their knowledge, skills and competency. This is why Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is a requirement to remain in IMI TechSafe recognition.

James Alpe Ltd is proud to be working with North West Automotive Training Solutions Ltd on the new Techsafe CPD programmes for their Electric Hybrid Vehicle and ADAS qualified technicians, ensuring technical expertise and industry knowledge is kept up to date with the technological advances of modern vehicles and repair methodologies.
