Concert Set to Feature Hundreds of Voices to Support Vital Community Causes

A century of community, music, and heritage will be celebrated in spectacular style at Blackburn Cathedral, as more than 100 local singers take to the stage for a major fundraising concert on Saturday 17th October.

‘100 Voices for 100 Years’ is a landmark event bringing together the vibrant community choir Local Vocals – one of the fastest-growing vocal groups in the North West – alongside guest performers from Blackburn’s own New Road Music Studios. Set within the iconic nave and world-class acoustics of the Cathedral, the evening promises an inspiring showcase of Lancashire’s rich homegrown musical talent.

Featuring a diverse and uplifting programme, the concert will offer a blend of bespoke contemporary choir arrangements with dramatic vocal performances. Beyond celebrating 100 years of the Cathedral, the evening carries a vital purpose: raising funds for two organisations that are so important to the local community.

Proceeds from the concert will support the work and upkeep of Blackburn Cathedral and its joint charity partner, East Lancashire Hospice. Ticket proceeds will help ensure both institutions can continue offering compassionate care, sanctuary, and community support for generations to come.

The Revd. Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn said:

“For 100 years, Blackburn Cathedral has been a place where people come together in times of celebration, reflection, and joy, and music has always been at the heart of that story. We have a proud musical heritage and to mark our centenary by bringing over 100 voices into this incredible space – and doing so in support of both the work of the Cathedral and our friends at East Lancashire Hospice – will be deeply moving. Every ticket bought directly supports the vital work both organisations carry out across our communities each day.”

George Harry Jones, Choir Leader at Local Vocals added:

“It’s a real privilege for Local Vocals to be part of ‘100 Voices for 100 Years’ and to bring so many of our singers together in such an incredible venue. We’ve performed at Blackburn Cathedral a number of times over the years, so getting the opportunity to put on a show of this scale there will be really special. In fact, we’re hoping that instead of 100 voices, there may actually be as many as 200 singers coming together! There’ll be some brilliant special guests
and the chance to raise money for Blackburn Cathedral and East Lancashire Hospice, it’s going to be a fantastic night and we can’t wait!”
