Six Connections And Lancashire Football Association Unite To Embed Positive Mental Health Conversations Across Lancashire’s Referee Community

Six Connections is proud to announce a new partnership with Lancashire Football Association, aimed at normalising mental health conversations and strengthening support for referees across the county.

The collaboration will focus on encouraging open dialogue, improving culture and behaviour within the grassroots game, and supporting referee retention by embedding positive mental health conversations across Lancashire’s referee community.

Referees play a vital role in football, but the pressures associated with officiating can have a significant impact on wellbeing. This partnership recognises the importance of pro-active, preventative support and signposting, and aims to make mental health conversations part of the culture within the game.

Jacob Lehane, Referee Development Officer at Lancashire FA, said:

“One conversation really can change everything, and Six Connections are the perfect partner to aid us in improving culture, behaviour and referee retention within the grassroots game.”

Six Connections has built a strong reputation across Lancashire for facilitating meaningful mental health interactions and creating safe spaces for conversation.

Founder of Six Connections, Dave Scholes said:

“We already support thousands of positive mental health interactions across the county, so partnering with Lancashire FA is a natural next step for us. This partnership represents a united effort to strengthen the health and wellbeing of our shared community”.

Through awareness initiatives and community engagement, the partnership will provide referees with practical tools, signposting and support networks designed to foster resilience, belonging and long-term participation in the game; whilst protecting them from potential isolation.

This initiative reflects Lancashire FA’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive, safe and inclusive football environment for everyone.
