East Lancs Down’s Syndrome Support Group Calls for Community and Business Partnerships

East Lancashire — East Lancs Down’s Syndrome Support Group (ELDSSG), a proud member of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, is celebrating more than a decade of supporting individuals with Down’s Syndrome and their families across the region.

Founded in 2011 by a small group of local parents, ELDSSG was established to ensure that families with a member who has Down’s Syndrome had access to friendship, understanding and practical support close to home. Since then, the group has grown significantly and now supports over 120 families across East Lancashire and beyond.

The organisation’s mission has expanded to enable people with Down’s Syndrome to participate fully in all aspects of society and to fulfil their individual potential. Its work is focused on three key areas: Family Support, Education and Health.

Through a dedicated team of volunteers and highly qualified specialists, ELDSSG delivers a wide range of services, including:

  • Regular family support sessions
  • Social activities and inclusive opportunities
  • Residential family weekends
  • School support services
  • Training for healthcare professionals

Although affiliated with two national Down’s Syndrome charities, East Lancs Down’s Syndrome Support Group is financially independent. The charity relies entirely on fundraising events, donations, bequests and grant funding, with every pound raised reinvested directly into supporting people with Down’s Syndrome locally.

As a member of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, ELDSSG is keen to build meaningful partnerships with local businesses and organisations. The group welcomes support in the form of sponsorship, fundraising collaboration, volunteering opportunities, and is also eager to discuss inclusive employment opportunities for its members with Down’s Syndrome.

Businesses and organisations interested in working with East Lancs Down’s Syndrome Support Group are encouraged to get in touch to explore how a partnership could make a positive and lasting impact in the local community.
