At East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, our people are at the heart of everything we do.

Behind every campaign, project, and initiative is a dedicated team of passionate professionals working together to support our local businesses and drive growth.

Over the coming weeks, we’re excited to introduce you to the individuals who make it all happen, starting with our Communications team.

First up, we’re pleased to introduce our Head of Communications, Michaela Hoyle.

Hi, I’m Michaela, Head of Communications here at East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.

Q: How did you get into the industry?

“I’ve always been very creative, with a passion for images and typography. I studied art, photography, and graphic design after finishing high school, before completing a BA Hons in Graphic Design, which gave me a natural progression into the industry.”

Q: What is your experience in the industry, and what are your notable achievements?

“With a career spanning 20 years, I’ve worked across a variety of creative studios and in-house departments, supporting a wide range of brands and sectors. I started out designing mainly for print, but my digital skills and experience have developed as technology has evolved. Career highlights for me include designing an award-winning Sixth Form prospectus and leading the creative development of several digital projects.”

Q: What does a typical day look like?

“At the Chamber, no two days are the same! I start my mornings with a freshly brewed coffee and a quick catch-up with the team to align our priorities. My role is a mix of hands-on design work and project oversight, ensuring everything we produce is creative, effective, and on-brand.”

Q: What do you love most about leading the Communications Department?

“I love that we have a huge diversity of skills within our team, and can always call on one another for expertise or advice. We’re constantly developing, exploring new tools and technologies, and pushing creative boundaries. Right now, I’m especially excited about how AI is transforming the creative industry. It’s opening up so many new possibilities.”

Q: Any top tips for getting into the industry?

“For anyone looking to break into the creative industry, an apprenticeship is a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience while working on real projects with real clients. Stay up to date with trends and technology, and keep learning.”

Q: Favourite way to unwind outside of work?

“Outside of work, I’m usually planning my next home renovation, researching and creating mood boards or planning every detail of an upcoming celebration – my creativity doesn’t stop at the office door! And when I need a bit of inspiration, I love listening to The Diary of a CEO. It’s full of thought-provoking conversations that touch on everything from business to wellbeing.”

We’re thrilled to have Michaela leading the Communications team and shaping the future of our work at East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce. Stay tuned as we continue to introduce the talented individuals who make our mission possible.
