Better Than Medicine Report – Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service
The Eric Wright Charitable Trust Fund first opened in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale in March 2018. Due to the success of delivery, the Trustees agreed that BPRCVS should continue to administer the funding, and they have just closed the sixth year of successfully funded community projects.
They have seen an increase in the number of groups accessing support and services through BPRCVS. The environment, rising cost of living, and social isolation are all still proving challenging. Local small groups continue to step up, stand solid and support our local communities. Accessing funding opportunities such as the Eric Wright Charitable Trust has enabled them to provide essential activities and community support.
Over the 2023-2024 period, 20 projects were awarded grants. A variety of activities were applied for, including gardening groups, mental health, wellbeing support and social inclusion.
The title of this report was taken directly from a feedback quote from one of the service users of a local community group called Drumming For Wellbeing;
“The drumming is so therapeutic and uplifting. You feel so good after a drumming session, to me it’s better than any medicine. It has improved my confidence and brought me out of my shell. It brings joy, light and happiness to the soul.”
The report demonstrates the value and importance of supporting local groups. The difference they make people’s lives in the communities of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale is evident.
Take a look at the varied projects happening around Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale, and see how just a small amount of funding can go a long way to improving the health and wellbeing of residents in East Lancashire.
