PM+M – the chartered accountancy, business advisory and financial planning group, has announced details of its next free Court of Protection event for legal professionals that will be happening in Blackburn on Thursday 8th February 2024.
This is the second such event the firm has staged, and for this one the PM+M financial planning team will be welcoming respected lawyers Mathieu Culverhouse and Saoirse de Bont from Irwin Mitchell as the keynote speakers.
The seminar will cover a number of topical issues including: navigating challenging clients or their families, including challenging behaviour; sexual consent and access to sex as well as drug and alcohol issues. Attendees will also benefit from a real life case study involving a challenging family member resulting in welfare concerns. The aim of this segment is to bring context to theory.
With over 15 years’ experience, Mathieu acts on cases representing the Official Solicitor, Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs), and the families of vulnerable adults in the Court of Protection under the Mental Capacity Act. He is also a founding member and national committee member of the Court of Protection Practitioners Association (CoPPA).
Saoirse acts on behalf of vulnerable adults and their families in Court of Protection matters, particularly in relation to disputes regarding capacity and best interest. She regularly helps people challenge decisions made by public bodies, including local authorities and the NHS.
PM+M’s own team of financial planning experts will briefly cover how a financial adviser can support the Court of Protection services offered by law firms, including helping to overcome any unexpected hurdles and making the process smoother and more efficient.
James McIntyre – partner in PM+M’s financial planning team – said:
“Our inaugural Court of Protection seminar last year was incredibly successful so we are very excited to be back with a fresh topic and some fantastic speakers. Mathieu and Saoirse will, I’m sure, bring some great insights that will both inform and educate.”
