An ambitious Burnley College Travel and Tourism Student has reached the finals of the prestigious Lancashire Tourism Awards.

Negar Rezaei, who is studying on the Advanced Level Vocational course, is nominated in the highly sought-after Tourism Student of the Year category.

The Lancashire Tourism Awards celebrate excellence, revealing the brightest and best stars working in Lancashire tourism, with many of the county’s winners progressing to represent Lancashire at the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

The finals will take place in February 2024.

Negar, 18, a former pupil at Colne Primet Academy, was nominated for her “passion for travel” and “professionalism and maturity of someone twice her age.”

Negar says she was delighted to discover she was in the finals:

“I was so excited! I was jumping up and down when I got the news. I got all my family together and told them. They were so proud. It actually made my mum cry!”

Negar has a wealth of multi-cultural experience, having relocated from the country of her birth, Iran, due to persecution. Her experiences have taught her to be proactive, seize every opportunity before her and be determined to succeed.

Negar said:

“I have done a lot of work to support Pendleside Hospice in particular. Most recently I was part of a team of fellow Travel and Tourism Students who set up a pop-up shop to raise money for this great charity in association with Boohoo and Pretty Little Thing.

“I love working and gaining experience wherever I can. I currently work at both TK Maxx and Burnley Football Club. Ultimately though, my career dream is to become a commercial pilot.”

Her Tutor, Nikolett Turai, says Negar made an impression at Burnley College from day one:

“As a Tutor, it’s my privilege to meet many, many great students who I immediately know are destined to achieve top grades and enjoy successful careers.

“However, there is something even more special about Negar: she always pushes herself that little bit harder and aims even higher!

“Because of her life experiences, Negar is very mature and has the determination and resilience to deal with every challenge before her.”
