HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) have been calling on members of the public to get involved in a Challenge Event to help raise funds for the Charity by ‘Hack, Hike or Bike’. A get active, sponsored, challenge to get riders, walkers and cyclists alike out in the great outdoors.

HAPPA invited participates to raise funds through sponsorship for either riding/ cycling 25 miles, which signifies the miles walked by a wild horse in one day, or, by walking 30,000 steps, the average steps taken by one of the Charity’s Equine Care Officers in one day’s work. Participants have been asked to complete this throughout July 2023.

For those who have missed registration or possibly unable to complete the whole challenge the Charity now calls upon you to help them with the Challenge Event and complete the Bike challenge.

If you live locally to HAPPA’s Shores Hey Farm in Briercliffe you can help the Charity raise funds and help HAPPA continue to be there for neglected, abused and unwanted horses, ponies and donkeys.

Throughout this month the Charity will be setting up a stationery exercise bike at the Farm and will be appealing to members of the public to help reach the target of 25 miles by dropping in and cycling for HAPPA.

HAPPA’s Head of Marketing and Fundraising, Julie Pharaoh-Gan, explains further

“We understand that everyone’s fitness levels are different, which is why we are asking the local community and HAPPA supporters to help the staff and volunteers of HAPPA complete the Challenge. Participants just have to call into our Reception area and cycle what they can to help us reach the overall target of 25 miles, the distance a HAPPA horse or pony would cover in the wild in just one day. We have the whole month to complete the fun Challenge. We would love to see a great mix of people come along and help us; I will certainly be putting in a few miles myself!”

The Charity are asking all challenge participants to help raise funds for the Charity who aim to give a Second Chance to vulnerable, neglected and unwanted equines through Rescue, Rehabilitation, Rehoming and Education.

The bike will be available from 11am – 4pm every day and for anyone visiting the Farm throughout July, the Charity just asks that you complete what you can or leave a donation to the riders.

Further information including registration for the event is at Charity’s dedicated website www.happa.org.uk
