The UK Government has swiftly implemented a ban on commercial imports of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and other ruminants and porcines including deer from Hungary and Slovakia.
This restriction also applies to untreated animal products such as fresh meat and dairy. The measure aims to safeguard farmers and their livestock.
Authorities are already working with local officials and traders to manage potential risks from shipments currently en route to Great Britain. These goods must be pre-notified, and existing border control systems will prevent unauthorised consignments from entering the country.
Additionally, similar restrictions remain in place for imports from Germany following a confirmed foot and mouth disease outbreak in a water buffalo herd in Brandenburg on 10th January 2025.
