The Department for Business & Trade are hosting an event on 28 March 2023 – Made in Lancashire, Sold to the World – helping companies maximise international opportunities to build a globally competitive County and have called upon the expertise of Mandy Lockett MIEx International Business Director of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.

Mandy, has over 30 years experience of international sales, logistics, customs procedures and regimes, specialises in supporting large businesses to implement systems to streamline their imports and exports.  Commenting on the most exciting news for international traders ‘Another opportunity appears on the horizon with the incoming trade agreement the UK is due to sign with Australia and New Zealand.’

“Lancashire businesses need to research these markets with the support from Department for Business & Trade, the Chamber of Commerce and their Trade Associations to prepare in time for when the agreement is in place.  Australian and New Zealand businesses will want to do business with us, especially as our manufactured goods will attract lower rates of duty.  In my career I have utilised trade agreements at every opportunity to the company’s benefit, and it worries me how little businesses today know of these frameworks, and just how much they can benefit them.  Understanding how these trade agreements can work for businesses is as important as understanding employment law –ignore it at your peril and let your competitors win business that should be rightfully yours”.

So what’s the answer?

Advance your international career by gaining essential knowledge and skills required to safely export and import for your business.  Nowadays you can learn on-site with our experienced trainers, from your office or at home – whatever works for you.

‘You don’t stop learning in business, and you must not stop asking questions as to why we do things – that’s why I’m headlining the event for the Department for Business & Trade and taking part in this important discussion around skills and knowledge.  With new trade agreements being introduced, Customs implementing full procedures, Freeports being launched, the UK trading environment is being transformed to compete on an international scale, helping businesses and investors to succeed.’
