It’s time to play Beat the Street (BTS) Burnley – a completely FREE interactive game coming back to the town, to tackle inactivity, improve wellbeing, promote climate action and more.

To find out how your business can get involved. read more below.

What is Beat the Street?

BTS transforms Burnley into a giant game for 6 weeks. With boxes all over the town to swipe, the game encourages those living and working in Burnley to get outdoors, explore the town and earn points.

What are the points for?

Players will collect individual points as they play, which are then added to the team’s leader board total.

With just short of half a million website views to the Burnley leader boards in 2021, it is a fantastic opportunity to extend the reach of a business through brand recognition, business reputation and building stronger community relations.

In addition, points mean prizes. There will be trophies and prizes for up for grabs and this year you can also earn trees!

What does this mean?

Points will also equate to trees. The more points earned the more trees earned. You will then have the opportunity to plant these trees either on site if feasible, or in one of the identified areas in the town to create community orchards and micro woodlands.

Why get involved?

Improved workplace health

The game promotes walking and cycling which not only improves physical health, but can have huge benefits on mental health, concentration, focus and productivity.

Improved fitness levels are also directly linked to improvements in the immune system. Being able to fight off colds, flu and viruses more effectively can support workplace sickness levels.

Improved staff wellbeing

Not only does the game improve both physical and mental health, but also social wellbeing. It can increase team moral, dynamics, and sense of belonging, not only within the workplace. People reported feeling part of “something bigger” in this town wide initiative.

Social Corporate Responsibility

Getting involved could support your CSR plan or strategy.

As briefly mentioned above, the tree planting element of the game and the promotion of active travel through more walking and cycling to work could support environmental sustainability plans or climate action targets.

If your CSR strategy includes direct philanthropic giving, there are ways you can support the funding of BTS. This will support future BTS programmes, providing sustained place-based health interventions and opportunities.
