ACI for sea freight became mandatory on 1 October 2021.

All Egyptian importers are required to use the NAFEZA platform to register incoming shipments and all foreign exporters are required to use the CargoX Platform to complete ACI filing over the blockchain. ACI filings on the CargoX Platform are only available to verified companies. The public pilot ACI for air freight began on 15 May 2022 and will become mandatory on 1 October 2022.

Most ACI filings require the following documents:

  • Bill of Lading Copy or Air WayBill Copy – Bill of Lading Copy (BLC) is used for sea freight shipments and Air WayBill Copy (AWBC) is used for air freight shipments. They can be provided as an XLS/XLSX (Microsoft Excel) spreadsheet file (no special structure is defined). It is completely fine to upload the BLC file as a PDF as well. Do not upload the original document – only a copy is needed.
  • Packing list – Packing list (PL) must be uploaded in PDF format.
  • Commercial invoice in PDF format – A commercial invoice (INV) must include tax/VAT ID for both importer and exporter. It must match with data entered in NAFEZA by the importer.
  • Commercial invoice in a structured format – Commercial invoice in a structured format (INV) must be in a NAFEZA-specified XML or Excel (XLS/XLSX) format (INV). More information on how to create a commercial invoice in a structured format can be found here.
  • Certificate of origin – Certificate of origin (COO) must be uploaded in PDF format.
