Eight Psychology Students from Burnley College University Courses have secured themselves work in the careers they love after impressing employers on scheduled field trips.

Seven students have gained positions in a combination of full-time and part-time and roles at Kemple View in Blackburn – a high dependency rehabilitation unit with more than 90 beds which aims to “maximise an individual’s opportunity for recovery and to lead a more independent life back in the community wherever possible.”

And an eighth Student has secured themselves valuable experience in their chosen career working with adults diagnosed with Autism.

The learners are all in their third year reading a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, Psychotherapy and Counselling.

Lecturer Ahad Warsi says he’s proud of all of them – but isn’t surprised:

“What is so special about this group of undergraduates is just how motivated they are.

“Their level of skills and ability are easily matched by their passion for the subject and their desire to get inside the industry and start making a real difference.”

At Burnley College University Courses we pride ourselves on our connections to industry and our expert Lecturers’ real-world experience working in the careers our Learners are aiming to excel in.

Ahad says:

“I come from an industry background and worked in the forensic services – and I gained valuable skills and knowledge – alongside invaluable connections.

“I like to use my connections to help innovate my teaching to give my Learners that extra advantage over their contemporaries.

“In the current climate people in all aspects of life are concerned about their job prospects so to be able to introduce our students directly to employers in the area is so valuable.

“Of course we can only make the introductions. It’s due to the hard work, dedication and raw ability of my learners they’ve managed to impress upon the people they’ve met – and secured employment in their dream careers already. They deserve it.”

Ahad has also acted as personal Tutor to the group and says he sees a lot of himself in their behaviour and motivations:

“I remember when I was in my third year – I started thinking ‘What am I going to do? Will I find a job?’

“Burnley and its surrounding areas suffer from deprivation, which I felt very much as a young learner and it takes someone to give you the strength and belief to know you can succeed.

“For all eight to have found employment or a placement in the roles they love is an incredible achievement. I’m so proud of them all.”
