Community Solutions NW based at Elmfield Hall in Accrington have seen an increase in participants across their range of social groups following the governments lifting of restrictions.
The charity operates a social prescribing model of bringing people together to enjoy common interests and to increase a person’s health and wellbeing. Instead of needing to see your GP for social reasons, our participants come along to our groups to help them feel less isolated, keep in touch with friends and to enjoy doing the things that make them happy.
Their current offer includes, a lady’s group, men’s group, purl in the parlour knitting group, cooking group, creative craft group and more.
In February 2022 Community Solutions saw over 400 people attend the social groups, all held at Elmfield Hall, managed by the charity’s delivery team and their fantastic team of volunteers.
One regular participant said:
“I was referred to the group by my mental health support worker. He told me how friendly and sociable it was, but I was sceptical. I was at a really low place in my life, and I was nervous about meeting new people.
“However, I didn’t need to worry as right away I felt at home. It has changed my week and I have met many new friends. I have got a lot of things sorted at home because of help from volunteers in the group. I feel positive for the first time in years.”
