Miranda Barker, Chief Executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce is #BackingBlackburn for their City Bid. Read her thoughts in a short Q&A below:

What makes Blackburn special?
It was at the centre of the first industrial revolution and can now be part of the new industrial revolution. We have global businesses which rely on Blackburn personnel, the likes of BAE Systems. The diversity of the population, the strength in schools, colleges and universities, and a heritage of defence and aviation, have all contributed to the announcement that the National Cyber Force will be based at the Samlesbury Enterprise Zone which, again, relies on Blackburn expertise.

What makes Blackburn a great place to do business?
It’s full of people and businesses who actively want to do business with each other and with the rest of the world. It’s a global trading post.

In a nutshell, why does Blackburn deserve city status?
It is recognised as leading the way with new industry, and it would be right to be recognised as a new city for the north.
