Prime Minister Boris Johnson has given his backing to Burnley College – and our mission to build futures and change lives through the use of future technologies –  in Parliament this week.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, the Prime Minister gave his support to our College, recently named number one in the country for the achievement of its students in the latest Government statistics, and welcomed its latest multi-million-pound expansion plans to provide the very latest special teaching spaces and sports facilities.

The backing from Number 10 Downing Street came in a response to Burnley MP Antony Higginbotham, who took to the floor to say:

“Burnley College was recently announced as the highest achieving College in the country, recognising its dedicated students, quality teaching staff and fantastic facilities which include a Centre for Advanced Engineering.

“As a result the College has experienced strong year-on-year growth in admissions.  But in order to ensure that young people continue to have the skills they need for the future its vital our FE colleges are invested in and keep up to date – and that’s why I’ve given my wholehearted support to Burnley College with its latest expansion plan which include greater teaching on drone technology, robotics and clean engines.”

The Prime Minister went on to praise the Burnley MP for championing Burnley College and “the cutting-edge education in the technologies of the future”.

Responding to the College’s mention in Westminster, Principal Karen Buchanan said:

“Thank you very much to Burnley MP Antony Higginbotham for placing Burnley College in the national spotlight for its excellent results, teaching and innovation.

“We’re proud of everything our amazing students and apprentices achieve on a daily basis and to have this acknowledged by the Prime Minister was a proud moment for us all.

“We’re committed to providing our students – and future generations of students – with the very best facilities; the very latest technologies and the most effective teaching methods and support to ensure they have the cutting edge skills, knowledge and mindset to make them future leaders.

“We regularly welcome Antony to College to see our students and apprentices at work; to give invaluable insights into the world of politics for students on A Level courses and through extra-curricular activities and, of course, to celebrate our success stories with us. I hope the Prime Minister will accept his invitation to join him on one of those visits in the near future.”
