Edge Hill receive national accolade for collaborative approach to teaching and learning
Edge Hill University has won a national award in recognition of its collaborative approach to curriculum design and teaching delivery to enhance the student experience.
Advance HE’s Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) has been given to the University in recognition of innovative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning, highlighting the key role of teamwork.
Sharing good practices in learning, teaching and assessment has been the ethos between Edge Hill’s academics from the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) and staff from the Academic Quality and Development Unit (AQDU).
Together the teams have focussed on enhancing the curriculum and students’ learning experiences to impact upon positive outcomes for all.
Professor Mark Schofield, Dean of Teaching and Learning Development, said:
“Supporting staff to enable them to produce the best possible outcomes for our students is at the heart of what we do. Our internal partnership approach supports a culture where colleagues willingly share and learn from each other to create a real vibrant learning community. Enhancement is in our DNA, we’re always going that extra mile to do things better and do better things. We are delighted that the impact of the collaboration is not only felt throughout the institution but has now gained this national and international recognition by Advance HE.”
Tony Turjansky, Director of Quality Assurance, said:
“This prestigious award celebrates the work done over many years by AQDU and CLT to promote quality enhancement by using programme design, approval and review to develop good practice in teaching, supporting students and sharing it across the University. We are pleased that Advance HE has recognised the synergy between quality assurance and enhancement and how we use this to promote genuine improvement for students.”

Due to Covid-19, the 2020 awards ceremony has been postponed. There will be a joint ceremony in autumn 2021 for winners from this year and next. There will be an online celebration to mark the winners the week beginning 27th September.Alison Johns, Advance HE CEO, said:
