The International Trade Club, sponsored by Baldwins, a CogitalGroup Company, and Forbes Solicitors, welcomed a number of businesses from across Lancashire to its latest Breakfast Meeting for advice on final preparations for Brexit.

On Thursday February 20th, over 60 guests attended The Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel, in Accrington, to hear from four guest expert speakers, who shared their knowledge of importing and exporting to help local firms anticipate any trading issues they may face.

DSV Air and Sea Limited, Senior Strategic Manager Simon Booth talked to guests about the challenges facing importers and exporters in the global markets. He said: “This year will bring various challenges to importers and exporters, such as the volatility of the freight market caused by the Coronavirus, and of course, Brexit, but if businesses start their preparation now, they will benefit when it comes to January 1st 2021”.

Moneycorp’s Corporate Account Manager John Sawyer also talked to guests about how to save money with international payments. With over two decades of experience in dealing with foreign exchange, John explained how Moneycorp, along with the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, can provide a tailored FX exchange to multi-sized businesses.

East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce International Business Director Mandy Lockett provided an overview of the revised Incoterms® Rules 2020 used in contracts when buying and selling internationally and explained the importance of having a clear understanding of using and applying these rules.

Toxophily Consulting General Management & Commercial Consultant Tony Camp discussed how product development and product sourcing impact businesses’ import and export strategies. He then provided guests with some tips on what to think about when developing their own plans.

After the event, Mandy Lockett commented: “This was a stimulating and thought-provoking event which raised a great deal of interesting discussion. On behalf of the chamber, I would like to thank all of the fantastic speakers for their time and expertise.

“The International Trade Club is committed to supporting the Lancashire business community’s trade opportunities; developing their knowledge through sharing experiences with a team of global commerce, especially at this uncertain time.”
