Customs Declaration Service

With the launch of the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) fast approaching, the plans to migrate all traders from August 2018 which will continue to January 2019 is a mammoth task for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and according to the recent National Audit Office report this is unlikely to happen. However, HMRC have now more robust contingency plans if this scenario occurs.

The current system handles a mere 55 million declarations and after the United Kingdom leaves the European customs union this might increase to 255 million, with the additional 145,00 traders currently trading with the EU only. Many UK Businesses being left in the dark, especially when it comes to future costs and administration which must be factored in.

Marie White, International Business Officer commented “This is the main purpose for the declaration service we offer, to provide the support and assistance which is a necessity for our international community.  Allowing your business to focus on the important aspects such as winning those lucrative orders whilst the Chamber works in the background completing declarations on your behalf ensuring your company is compliant and can satisfy any HMRC audit visit.  Keeping the pressure off where we can is imperative, we have a highly skilled International Business Team at East Lancashire Chamber
