Female business leaders are being urged to sign up to an engaging and rewarding event to inspire College students and mark International Women’s Day.
This year, the global theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Be Bold for Change’ and thousands of organisations and communities across the globe will join together to celebrate women’s journey towards parity.
At Nelson and Colne College, the day will be celebrated on the 6th March at an Oysters and Pearls event run by Role UK. 40 female students will benefit from motivation, debate and discussion alongside presentations by Katy Simister, Charity Manager at Aiming Higher and Lesley Shepperson, Managing Director of Shepperson and Shepperson Consultants Ltd.
The event will be facilitated by Lancashire actress and former NCC student Amy Strange and activities will include communication skills and confidence building with plenty of time built in for the students to talk to and learn from local business women.
Wendy Bowers, Founder of Role and past President of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce said: “Our Oysters and Pearls events are full of motivation, debate and sharing.”
“We want the girls to believe in themselves and their future and realise that we have superb career opportunities on the doorstep, in addition to a whole world of opportunity they can reach with the right attitude and support.
“Delegates at previous events have told us it was ‘life changing’, and we are thrilled to be invited back to NCC. The feedback from our November event there was amazing.
“International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level.
“But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow from strength to strength – so come and join us!”
In November, Role UK worked with a group of 45 female students at NCC at a previous Oysters and Pearls event during Global Entrepreneurship Week. The company works with women across the country to build confidence, improve management skills, develop succession planning and ensure opportunity for all.
The next Oysters and Pearls event will run between 9am and 2pm on the 6th March and a hot buffet lunch will be served during the event. There is optional networking from 2pm until 3pm, which will include a glass of bubbly.
Role and NCC are looking for 40 wonderful women who are prepared to spend an inspiring day working with the girls. If you are a business owner, manager or leader in Lancashire and you would like to get involved, contact Wendy Bowers on 07929 917701 or email at [email protected]
