Mandy Lockett, International Business Director of the East Lancashire’s Chamber of Commerce , has published her latest column in the Business Life magazine Spring edition, which reads:
“The results are in and the people of Britain have voted for our country to leave the European Union. What happens next
is vital for the UK to remain an internationally recognised trading partner with all countries across the world. For Britain to leave it needs to trigger Article 50 of the EU rulebook, the first time in history, with negotiations possibly being completed in two years so clearly indicating an official leave could be not before October 2018. In parallel, the Government needs to initiate trade negotiations with the rest of the world to allow the free movement of goods in and out of Britain. In the meantime, its ‘business as usual’ we are hearing from our members and with our outstanding reputation for world class quality, reliability, efficiency and expertise, we will survive and continue to fly the British flag.
Further news is the key date of 1st July when shippers need to accurately verify the gross mass of their containers, a requirement of SOLAS (the Safety of Life at Sea Convention). The chamber has issued information sheets detailing the two methods available, the implications for FCL (full) and LCL (less/part) containers and how the process will operate. An important document for all exporters.
The Lancashire Business Growth Fund programme is in its final year, if you are a manufacturing company and looking to invest in your business through machinery/plant acquisition and/or infrastructure improvement with an ambition to create employment then you need to act fast, contact us and check your eligibility.
We had the pleasure of sponsoring the International Achievement Award at the recent Blackburn with Darwen Hive Business Awards and would like to congratulate Northern Industrial on their successful win.
A special mention from the International Business Team goes to Tony Grimshaw, Director of What More UK Ltd for being awarded an OBE for services to International Trade and Community Projects in the Queens 90th Birthday Honours List.”
