Yesterday’s International Trade Club Breakfast Meeting offered a vibrant mix of new and experienced traders, the chance to expand and update their knowledge, benefit from a wide range of informative presentations and enjoy a fabulous breakfast.

Our Speakers included:

Fiona Smith: Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Warwick’s School of Law and leading UK authority on international trade law under the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Fiona who introduced the World Trade Organisation: what it is, who it’s members are, how it’s rules work and how disputes between members are settled. She provided an overview of some of the WTO issues that confront the UK now and how those issues might affect their business.

Laurie Thomas: Managing Director, Vision Support Services, a leading supplier and distributor of luxury, specialist and performance textiles to global hospitality, retail, healthcare and commercial laundry sectors. As winners of the International Trade Club Awards 2016, they shared their do’s and don’ts when trading internationally, including their top tips and their recent successes.

Mike Spicer: Director of Research and Economics, British Chamber of Commerce. Mike represents the BCC externally on business policy and matters relating to local economic development. Mike provided an update on the “Business Brexit Priorities” and what this means for local companies trading internationally.

13th July Nathan Monshin from SI Risk will discuss Health and Safety / Duty of Care requirements for international business. Bribery and corruption both in the UK and US.

Helen Cowley from Cassons will discuss the current VAT rules concerning the supply of goods to other EU member states, and the likely impact of Brexit and the UK’s decision to leave the Single Market and EU Customs Union. She will discuss the difference between ‘dispatches’ and ‘exports’, and the potential requirements for UK businesses to register for VAT in overseas jurisdictions if acting as importer in those countries.
