Lancashire County Council has secured funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund to enable it to assist East Lancashire Businesses in promoting smarter travel for the journey to work.

We want to improve door to door journey experiences, promote sustainable travel infrastructure and encourage more people to choose walking, cycling, car share or public transport for suitable journeys.

As part of the project a range of sustainable travel initiatives have been developed, these include:

Sustainable Travel Grants

Grants are available, up to £5,000, to any business or organisation located within East Lancs.

The funding can be used towards improvements to or provision of sustainable travel initiatives/infrastructure, for example:

  • safe and secure cycle parking facilities
  • showers, changing and drying facilities
  • lockers
  • electric vehicle charging points
  • teleconferencing and video conferencing facilities
  • sustainable travel days/events

Lancashire Cycle Challenge

The Workplace Cycle Challenge is a competition between organisations to see which can get the most employees to ride a bike. The organisations that get the highest percentage of their employees to ride a bike win a team prize. There are 6 size categories to level the playing field. The Lancashire Cycle Challenge will take place between Monday 8 June and Sunday 28 June 2015 followed by a subsequent ‘virtual’ challenge in autumn. The Challenge is free to join and is part of the UKs National Cycle Challenge Programme and spans Bike to Work Week too.
