Commenting on the launch of the announced £11.8bn bidding process for HS2 contracts, John Longworth, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce said:

“Britain’s ageing infrastructure is in desperate need of long-overdue investment, which will be essential if we are to remain competitive in the 21st century. Businesses across Britain will be hugely encouraged to see traction on HS2 at last, as it will deliver a step-change in capacity that Britain’s rail network needs and will be an essential component in laying the foundations of future regional growth.

“The contracts will be welcome news to firms seeking to become involved with the project and will provide a boost to the economy, but it is also important to ensure that as much of the work as possible is completed by UK contractors and that the benefits of the scheme are felt right across the regions it spans.”
